It just looks kind of crappy.  I don't mind a little, but it can get out of hand.  All of my tanks have a little, but my multie tank really gets that BBA, almost all of it on the shells and one piece of holey rock, whick I recently pulled and bleached.  Now it looks great.  You can bleach the shells as well, just rinse them really well afterward.
