Downsizing, What is that? Oh, just another way of saying I'm going to get rid of a species or two to make room for more species.

just got 5 similis today! first time with these guys. Got rid of my multi colony a few weeks ago and started to miss them. These are a cooler version of multies. I have them in a 55 gallon with black sand and a dozen shells. What other fish can i put in there? would a small yellow nkamba bay calvus work? a orange julie? a goby cichlid? haha weird list i know but these are some of the fish from some of my other tanks that could use a new home. i also have some young julie transcriptus that i could move in there as well. any advice

Hey I have a few questions, I plan on getting 4 to 6 of these guys for a 20 gallon long tank (30 inches), do you think this would be an ok number? Also is 18 shells enough for this many shellies? Thank you.

It means you should leave him alone to sort out his problem..... Be patient....they will sort it out

Get as many to start with as you can afford....they are hard to sex and you want at least a pair That works for shells too....you will never have too many shells with similis....they will eventually use whatever you put in the tank Unlike occys that pick a couple and bury the rest They are a fantastic little fish......give them a couple of years and you will have a thriving community I started with 7...12+ months ago and now have 50+ (lots of fry) A real community and plenty of action!!!

Ok, thank you. I recalled reading that if you have more then one pair in the begining that those who are not aprt of the pair will be harrased really bad. But it sounds like these guys are just like multies. I will probably get 6 when the time comes. I just set up the tank yesterday. As soon as I'm finished getting my planted tank stocked I'm going to get the similis.
I found out that world market carries escargot shells, 18 for 12 dollars, so I will probably start out with 18 shells and 6 similis, and at the first site of fry I will buy 18 more. I have 7 fish tanks but have never kept african cichlids, so I decided to start with a small shellie tank. I am very excited.
