Hi everyone!
I just joined the forum today as I am looking to set up my first shellie tank in a few months (after we move).
I've been keeping fish since I was about 12 and cichlids since about 15 but I've never kept any sort of African.
I don't really like the looks of the Malawi so I figured why not start with some shellies instead?
Looking forward to learning alot!

Hi Bonnie! I just joined a few days ago - what part of the Pacific NW are you from?  I live in the suburbs of Seattle:)

I'm doing the same thing - researching and planning my first shellie tank!

Hi!  Let's hear it for the PNW!!!  Cheesy     We're in the process of trying to locate Pearly Ocellatus (Lamprologus stappersi/meleagris) for my daughter who fell in love with what she's seen and read on the 'net.  Finding these guys is NOT easy!   We have the tank all set up and ready, now we just need to find 'em!  Wink    Actually, I should qualify that - I CAN find them - in CA, UTAH, and Arizona as the closest sources to where we live in Bremerton, WA.  I'm just trying to find them closer to home, so I don't have to pay - $50-80 in shipping costs!  Wink  All the best to you as you research and set up your tanks!  Smiley

Hello, Bonnie...welcome to ShellDwellers!  Glad to hear you are doing some research prior to acquiring the fish, all too often, that part of the hobby gets neglected. <thumbs up>  The research you are doing now, will undoubtedly have you "jonesing" for some of the remarkable little fish (regardless of species).  Once you get some in the tank and seal the deal, you wont be disappointed.

Welcome to shelldwellers.  Pearly Ocellatus are beautiful fish.  Try to see if one of your LFS, mom and pop type not one of the big chain stores, can order them for you from their distributor.

Hi Jacquie ... I don't mean to hijack this thread, but have you tried a local fish club? There's one in Seattle that may help you find the fish you're looking for...

And they have an auction coming up in April !!
