This is a wonderful site and wanted to finally say Hello.  I had been looking at trying my skills with shell dwellers and was very pleased to find this site so devoted to these wonderful fish.

I've been in the planning stages since July of 2009 when I acquired a few used aquariums that would be perfect for raising shell dwellers.  So after a few months of cleaning, re-siliconing & leak testing the tanks, I purchased a sturdy rack system to set up six tanks in my finished basement.  I decided to use an air pump & Mattenfilter style sponge for my filtration system.  I am very pleased with how everything has worked out and finally got my first fish in November at the Ohio Cichlid Extravaganza in Strongsville.

I purchase 6 F-1 N. similis and a lot of shells from a vendor there.  They are doing very well and seem pleased with their setup.  I will start a new thread with more in depth details of my setup as soon as I get better pics uploaded.

Thanks for being there to help me through this process.  I'm looking forward to being able to share my experiences with these wonderful fish.

Welcome to Shell Dwellers Dee.

I saw those Simils on someone's list at the Ganza and then read they were sold ...

Sounds like they're in good hands!
