I feel spoiled ... I've never had to cycle a tank.
1 - take water from existing tanks
2 - take filter media from another tank
3 - take rocks/sand/gravel from another tank

Voila .... ready for fish  Tongue

Bring on those pics, Lowes is the best store, next to a fish shop   Grin

yes best way is to set up another filter about 1 week before your going to setup your new tank to let the bacteria grow and then you have a head start and no need for cycling (just done this last week for my new tank lol).

@ AlleyCat - What filter you running, external?

Diatom filter?

HOT Magnum w/micron cartridge?

API Accu-Clear or other water clarifier?

Just a few ideas,

I usually use an extra internal sponge filter when I set up a new tank just to help clear the water.
