that may be the case, but then again my filters move some of the sand/gravel so im guessing that helps aswell..
maybe get a stronger filter?

I have been cleaning like Multies, during my weekly water change. And then use that water on plants.

When Im not being lazy I vaccum the sand every week when I do my water change. It usually only needs a light going over.

I dont ever vaccum close to their shells for that reason and because Of the risk of sucking up fry.

I'm pretty sure my MTSnails do most of the clean up. They live in the sand and are waiting for something to sneak up to the surface to eat.
When I do partial water changes, I do a hand sweep to stir things up.
I use black or dark gray sand in most of my tanks....to me it doesn't look as "dirty" as lighter sand.
