Haha, snails? My snails, Red Ramshorn, used to lay eggs sacs in my multi tanks. The fry would pick at them and therefore I wouldn't get many little snails! Wink

My Buffalohead pair, not a shell-dweller, had 150 fry, which is quite a large spawn for these fish considering the egg size. The female is HUGE again so I think they'll spawn soon! I got one white fry outta this batch, and hopefully I can get a few more in the next batch. I'd like to raise them up and breed the white ones. You don't see them!

Cheers,
Nick

Most of my shell dwellers are a year or more old.  They usually all produce about 30 fry but only 20-25 survive to sellable size.  When the fish are younger, the spawns use to be around 15-20.

I find that my WC adults produce larger spawns (by 5-10) than my F1's.  However, the success rate for survival of fry is larger with the F1 adults.  I attribute this to the F1 fish being accustomed to my city water etc.   I've now gone to only WC breeding stock.

My brevis pair seem to be producing about 3 dozen fry per spawn.  I can't tell with my multies.

My Sunspot Brevis just had their second brood and there looks to be around seven. Their first brood produced about 25. But I was only able to find eight when I put them in their own tank because I noticed that they were disappearing. I'm not sure who ate them mom, dad or the other pair of Brevis that share their tank.

I've had two (I think - see my last fry post) recent stapp. broods.  The first seemed to be only 4-6, but one day I think I just got lucky and counted 12.  They seem to stay in the shell hidden.   Now they're a couple of weeks old they come to the entrance more.  The second brrod was about 6-10 from a different mother.

My mulites produce a new brood once every 20-30 days. The first batch had seven or so and four have survived. The second batch had three and all have survived. The third batch has about eight and they seem to be doing alright. I don't know what I am going to do with them; if any one wants some for trade let me know.

My punks just gave the first batch, about 30-50.

My callochromis rinbow female had 18 when I stripped her. About 16 have survived. Not a shelldweller but an amazing and interesting sandsifter.

I hatch baby brine three to four times a week. Also Have vinager eels tht are a pain to pull from the vinager. hikari first bites and cyclop-eeze are also greatly enjoyed.

Try microworms, they're way easier than vinegar eels.

My pair of Occelatus Blue had their 2nd spawning December 18, 2005 and I counted around 40~ fry.  Now 5~ months later I have 35 (I recently sold 4 off) I only lost one fry because it whent across the tank divider and my multies had their way with it...  It only took maybe 2 weeks for my pair to have their second spawning, the first spawn slowly died out within 2 weeks because I tried to raise them with just crushed flake food.  I fed the second spawning with live BBS for atleast 3 months.

Hello,

My temporalis shell spawned about 3 days ago, there are about 15 fry. Everytime I count there seems to be more. Mom is guarding the shell as if there are more eggs or non swimming fry in there?
Maybe there are more?

The first spawn for my multies was at least 20.  Subsequent spawns have been a lot smaller.  Every so often now I see just a couple new ones so it appears I am reaching critical mass.  Wink

My brevis usually have 40 fry, the larger fry in the tank eat most of them though...

I took a pic of my latest spawn:
