I suspect the last one's a male, but they all can have the patterning; when displaying, they bar up, but most of the time they look like the other pictures.

The Caudo pair I used to have. First spawn from them gave 80 fry. Second spawn two weeks later gave 68 fry.

N.Caudopunctatus are from what I have read 'facultative' shell dwellers, but are found to be rock dwelling in the wild. So, I guess my question is, did you give them the choice of breeding substrate or was it just shells in the tank? I'm asking since I've seen them locally and am toying with the idea of setting up a tank for them, but don't know whether to give them rocks, shells or both.
Cheers

I'd definitely give them rock. That's where they live; I wouldn't want to deprive them of that. However, shells near the rock are also a good idea, since they primaily spawn in shells.

sman91wing could make a rockpile in his tank with shells and let us know (in a couple of years) which they opt for.

I have rockwork, where they sleep (they're pretty active during the day and patrol about 4' of the tank, but the rocks clearly remain home base). Around the whole tank are shells, shells, shells; I've been seeing the "pair" (as opposed to the excluded third fish) feign little spawnings in those, and they've adopted a few near the rock pile, which the similis fry aren't allowed in.

Sweet. When I move in 2 months I'm going to dedicate my 29g for them, and I'm planning on setting up a pretty good rock pile with shells all around it, and maybe a shell or two within the pile. I'm still debating possible tank mates. Any suggestions?

That's lovely! I'm becoming more and more convinced mine aren't Caudopunks at all, but a caudo/comp hybrid (which would explain the odd comp-like fish that came with them in the shipment). I'm keeping my eye out for real caudos, now. Sigh.

I think the chance they're leloupi is about the chance a whelk has in a supernova. Is anyone even exporting them? It'd be cool, definitely, but I doubt it. Thanks though. (There are sillier possibilities: they could be wauthoni! )

Looks like LM's aren't caudos.. not a trace of yellow..
And I highly doubt they're comp hybrids.. they don't have the funky mouths...
