Species Forum Basics

The Species forum is divided into two types of posts: photo threads and discussion threads.

The photo threads contain photos meant to aid in identifying, sexing, and selecting shelldweller species. These threads are stickied in alphabetical order, so you can easily find the one you're looking for. They're locked, so only Clint and I can change them, generally to add photos. Uncredited photos are mine; all others are credited.

Threads without photos (please submit!) will have no 56K warning in the subhead.

If you have a photo that would improve our selection (a new species; a definite male for species we only have female pictures of; fry photos; pairs; particularly spectacular photos), you can post it in the discussion thread for that species. If it fits the criteria, I'll remove the photo (sometimes the post) and place the photo in the appropriate photo thread, credited to you. Otherwise, I'll leave it in the discussion thread so people can enjoy it there.

Reaching the discussion threads:
Rather than searching for the right thread (they're not alphabetical), just use the link from the photo thread. The discussion thread also links back to the photo thread, and eventually most or all of these threads will link to articles on the species.
