Does  anyone here  know  IF   N   brevis "magara" is actually   a calliurus  or  if it  is   yet another  species ?
I have  some  fry    brevis "magara"  that   bear a  striking resemblance  IMO to  calliurus. However  the  tails   dont  seem   to be  as  lyred  jsut  yet.  Ima  hopnig  as they mature the lyre  will become  more evident.
Also   if  anyone  has  any  fry  from their  calliurus   were the fry tails slow  to  develope the  lyre/fin extentions?.    A  few  things i  notice   with my brevis"magara are  the  caudal  fin is  not  rounded  like  brevis..it  seems to have  sharper  angles ,  their  bodies  seem to be   slightly  more  elongated  and there is  a  small   yellow  spot   on  either  side of the head   above the eyes.

Once  these  fish are  mature I am sure it will be easier to  tell  ,  I would  jsut liek to  know   if the  name  brevis"magara" is  jsut  a synonym  for  calliurus   or  not.

    thanks

Hi Tim,

I think from what I remember they are the same fish.  Some people call them L. calliurus and some call the L. brevis "magara".  I have these guys and their caudals, once they reach a certain size, do become more pointed than brevis.  Mine are about 1" right now and their caudal is starting to become more sharply angled.

Downsizing, What is that?  Oh, just another way of saying I'm going to get rid of a species or two to make room for more species.

Most fish have multiple names theirs the latin name, and then theirs other names that are given by breeders, normally the same fish.

somewhat like malawi peacocks, Strawberry, Firefish, DragonBlood and so on.

Since my little guy have grown up, it seems I have 3males/1female.  The male is starting to grow his lyretail.  Too bad I don't have room for them to breed Sad
