So, does anybody know if these guys start out being bad parents? Do they get better in time, or do they remain bad parents? I've seen fry 2 times so far, but in a couple days, they disappear. I tried to siphon one into a little poorly made fry float box, but he escaped and in a day was no longer seen cruising the sand near momma's shell.
I'll make a greater attempt to rescue fry in the future if I know the parents won't rise up to the occasion. I guess I might be asking too much, w/ 2 males and 4 little females in a 10 gallon tank. They might think its at capacity already.
What do you all think? Thanks!

I have a wild caught pair, in a 125g with 6 Tricoti, 6 Paracyps, and 5 Xenos. I've left 2 batches of fry in with them, and watched as the fry ventured off and sealed their fate. The male didn't defend the shell much, but is mean as a *&^%$ to his mate when I've reached in and pulled the shell to save the fry. So for now, I leave every other spawn in the tank after they're born to give maw and paw a chance to raise them. Really, only the Xenos take the fry, the others despite their size aren't after them.
Just my 2cents

My friend who breeds them down in Madison, WI has two pairs, each in a 10gallon, without issues of parents eating fry. Fish head, perhaps your tank is at full capacity.

Downsizing, What is that? Oh, just another way of saying I'm going to get rid of a species or two to make room for more species.

my tank is at full capacity, yes indeed.
I noticed one of the males lost his shell. He hid out behind rocks for a while. I added more shells. He then moved into the hole of a ceramic Venus De Milo. His mate hangs in there w/ him. He's been battered. I never saw it coming. They pretty much always just did a quick chase and no biting, but this guy has been hit many times.
I'll have to move the pair. And that will be that.
I siphoned a few fry into a floating fry thing, but, ha ha....the holes are too big and the fry just went right thru and back to the sand pit, and shell. I cut a piece of plexi to cover the holes, and I'll try again soon...but momma hates the siphon tube.

My WC pair are fine parents till they are feeling amorous again, then the fry start rapidly disappearing. I have saved some of the first brood, and the occaisional survivor, but haven't made a concerted effort due to lack of extra tank space.

I just got a male/female pair of ornatippinnis this past Saturday at the CCA meeting. The male is always hanging out at the opening of one shell. I saw the female for the first couple of days but then she disappeared. I haven't seen her in two days. I'm pretty certain of which shell she's been in though. I'm excited about getting these guysto spawn!

I've just gotten 6 of them myself. They are in with some paracyps. So far, they appear very shy, just hanging out as mentioned by their shells. Though they are starting to colour up
