One of the coolest 10 gallon setups I've enjoyed over the years had a pair of spawning julidochromis marlieri.  I filled the tank w/ rocks to the surface and some floating plants and then let them fill it w/ little julies all exactly as cool as they were.

At some point I tossed some cherry barbs in there and they spawned too, which surprised the schmuck outta me!  Not that I had a high survival rate, but I ended up w/ more barbs than I bought in the beginning.  I didn't like that most people noticed the cherry barbs and didn't give much attention to the julies.

Shrimp are cool too.
