Wherw to get shells from
« on: February 25, 2017, 03:41:05 PM »
Hello, first time posting here. I'm going to start up a 20long shellie tank.
Just wondering what a good source is for shells. Checked ebay and amazon and i can find any that seem to be big enought. Everything is 1-2in in length. I bought some and they don't seem like they will allow an adult shelli to fit. Oh ill prop good with multis or similis. Thanks

I found Roland escargot shells and snails (gave the snails to a lady at Walmart lol) 12 shells were 4.98.

Search around the Internet for Escargot shells. You can get them cheaper than Walmart. Cooking supply sites might also stock them. Get a lot, like three dozen or more.

I bought mine from Markys.com and they are about 1.5 2 Diameter & 1 1.5 Height each shell.  Perfect for most shellies.

I did not like the look of the Escargo shells. They are practical and work.  My Similis like them. I discovered a great resource for shells. Richards Sea Shells. I like the large Murex. They have a great selection.

Artistic license goes a long way in our tanks. I was able to get about 36 Neothauma shells at one point. They are the actual shells our shell dwellers use in Lake Tanganyika. I looked at the Murex shells. They are very interesting looking, but I would not like them in my own tank.

You are correct. Not everyone has an artistic eye.

Those murex look heavy.  Are your similis able to move them around?

OP what type did you end up getting?  I once had escargo with my stappersi and they worked just fine.  I'm starting a new tank too, I'm getting  escargo and some babylonia this time.  I'd love to use neothauma but they're expensive.

those babylonia shells look perfect for shell dwellers, a little thick and i assume heavier than escargo, but a nice big opening and such.
